Small Chops: Shine Your Light

Small Chops: A Nigerian term for Canapés, Hors d’oeuvres and the like. Small Chops: Quick thoughts of mine La Mer, Dubai, UAE, April 2018 Tough times speak of who you truly are and they really test your beliefs/faith. I’ve been working on a conference since October and it’s taking place in a few days, and today was gonna be my FIRST PEAK day! It was just a WAWU! In such situations I HAVE TO pray to keep my cool because I must remain a Child of THE LIGHT so that EVERYONE WILL PRIASE MY HEAVENLY FATHER. #BeTheLightToDirectTheWay 🙏🏾 #DontNEPAYourDayAway #SometimesShutYourMouthAndPraiseInYourHeart #LORDForgiveMeForSaying💩 😂😂😂 (MATE!) ““You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5:14-16‬ ‭NLT‬‬ Signed, @OlayideM …

Music: Five Vibes Vol. 2

It’s Gospel (I’m trying to be consistent with the music posts, so here it goes). So, these songs are all Gospel songs that I stumbled across, and to be honest I’m still listening to, only having discovered a few not to long ago and some I’ve been rocking via YouTube for a while. I’ve listed these songs in no particular order. 1. Tim Godfrey & Lagos Community Gospel Choir ~ Medley I’ve started the video for you when the music actually starts because Tim Godfrey likes to shout. 🙄😐 My favourite part starts at 13:53… how I wish it went on longer just on this song. Twitter: @TimGodfreyWorld | iTunes | Spotify Unfortunately Lagos Community Gospel Choir aren’t that active on social media (they’re on Facebook) and I can’t seem to find their music on iTunes etc. If they do release anything I’ll update this post with their info. 2. Tosin Martins & Lagos Community Gospel Choir ~ Medley “Give Jesus a shout. Somebody RACE beyond your PLACE and PRESS beyond your PRESTIGE and give God praise tonight…” …

Small Chops: The Gift of Community

Small Chops: A Nigerian term for Canapés, Hors d’oeuvres and the like. Small Chops: Quick thoughts of mine Taken from my IG Page (IG: @OlayideM), originally posted on 12 July 2017. An unexpected hour with my friend Nkechi had me ever grateful to God for the gift of Community. Community isn’t defined by proximity, but defined by a mutual value and appreciation of the gift. Don’t let social media fool you into believing your community is tight, true Community doesn’t require validation from likes, RTs and views. A few minutes on social media has never inspired or encouraged me (it’s done the opposite), a few minutes with true Community has made me feel I can do anything and everything. True Community will call you out about the worst version of you, and celebrate you at the same time. It will laugh with you, it will cry with you, it will pray with you (and especially for you) and more. True Community gets behind the scenes while being in front of the camera. It’s involved. True …

Small Chops: When Life is Foggy

Small Chops: A Nigerian term for Canapés, Hors d’oeuvres and the like. Small Chops: Quick thoughts of mine This picture was taken early January in Dubai. People are often under the impression that Dubai is 24/7 Sun, Sea and Sand, which most times of the year it is, but it rains*, it gets cold (from 40º+  heat to 16º in “winter” so yes it gets cold), the fog is impossible to see through and the sandstorms are things only meant for Disney Films (sand in your hair after wash day is the worst). As with Life. Life may be and even continue to be a Sun, Sea and Sand picturesque moment, but sometimes fog and rain will appear in places you least expected (literally). Looking at this picture, and not knowing the many floors located in the building, it’ll be easy to assume that only the floors in this picture are all the floors in the building. This building has 33 floors (I work on the 31st), in the fog you can just about make …

Faith: Every “job” is too big

In our waking up, our going out, our decision making, in our rest, In our work In our thinking In our speaking & not speaking In our seeing & not seeing In our hearing & not hearing In purchasing In our eating In our drinking In our tears In our laughter In the good times & the worst of times, in love & out of love In our debates & our agreements In our forgiveness & persuit of reconciliation In our reprimanding & being reprimanded In our comfort In our confusion… In it ALL. It is faith in Christ that gets every “job” done. For even to wake to a new day is not of my own strength (neither is hitting the snooze button), it’s God’s doing. Every action and lack of it, may appear small, but every “job” is too big for us to accomplish by our own strength. Faith in Christ makes all the difference in the lives we live. Faith: I Gave Maria My Gloves!

One cold November evening after work I stopped to speak to a homeless lady who usually sits close by my office, at this time our conversations are frequent. Some loose and not so loose change, some coffees, turkey sandwiches and a few chocolate chip muffins, have also been common givings during our frequent catch-up-sessions. However this particular November evening it was really cold and I had my pair of thick, woolly, creamed-coloured H&M gloves in my bag. I had every intention of putting on my very warm gloves, but never got round to actually taking them out of my bag by the time I caught up to Maria sitting at her spot. With our usual pleasantries exchanged and a brief (yet always the same) Q&A, I offered to buy Maria her usual coffee with one sugar and half & half. As I handed her the coffee I heard God say “give her your gloves.” I laughed Him off, “like yeah right”, and insisted that my body turned in the direction that led to home. I …
