Life: Don’t Pity Me Because I’m Single – RELOADED

How I Ended It… “I’m genuinely enjoying where God has me right now and know that I’m not upset or frustrated, I’m just concerned that my singleness is a concern for some – but be assured that God has me! He knows what’s good for me.” 1st Corinthians 7 verse 25 – 38 The Message Version “The Master did not give explicit direction regarding virgins [the unmarried], but as one much experienced in the mercy of the Master and loyal to him all the way, you can trust my counsel. Because of the current pressures on us from all sides, I think it would probably be best to stay just as you are. Are you married? Stay married. Are you unmarried? Don’t get married. But there’s certainly no sin in getting married, whether you’re a virgin or not. All I am saying is that when you marry, you take on additional stress in an already stressful time, and I want to spare you if possible. I do want to point out, friends, that time is of …

Story: The Bakerloo Line ~ Oxford Circus to Charing Cross Part 2

Part 2 is here finally… catch up with part 1 here (or simply refresh your memories) Train stories ~ Short fictional stories inspired by real train commuters and I’ve intentionally not given the characters names. If I see you, I just may turn you into a story.  At 32 he stood tall and confident with his ginger hair slicked back, size nine antique brown brogues on his feet and his expensive fitted lapis-blue suit. Other than his achievements and his job, his appearance was everything to him. He held on tightly to his expensive Knomo black leather laptop bag in his left hand because he was incredibly nervous – rare. If his bag had a pulse it would have died. He had never been nervous about anything ever. The last time he checked it was 6:04pm now it was 6:05pm apparently time had no regard for him and refused to acknowledge his inner plea for her to come soon. For the first time in his professional life he had lost focus at work – it appeared that today …

Life: Don’t Pity Me Because I’m Single – Vlogs & Songs

So last week I wrote about my singleness and how I feel about it, you can read it here. In light of that, here are two videos from young Christians talking about singleness and marriage, both from different Biblical perspectives. Ladies First: @Omoba_Debs | xSoulBeautyx on YouTube “I’m so in love with God in my state of singleness. I don’t see it as a curse anymore…” @whatisjoedoing from @chaseGodTV on YouTube “Your desire to be married is not an ungodly desire…but at the same time we can’t let this desire consume us and dominate us…” Also, enjoy this song from Falz (The Bahd Guy), with the helps of Yemi Alade and Poe, he talks about how eager women are to get married due to age, pressure from family, and seeing friends (and enemies) get married whilst they are [still] single (basically). If you understand the song I’m sure you’ll enjoy the funny punch lines but also appreciate the truth of the matter. “Don’t get it twisted, it’s not like I’m desperate/ I just have a life plan and it’s …

Life: Don’t Pity Me Because I’m Single

I’ve been meaning to write something on this topic for a very long time, but every time I started to write this post it never seemed authentic. Writing about it felt forced but then this happened… Half-term at my house and some how my relationship status was the topic for discussion… and my 12 year old cousin procedes to ask “Sister Layide*, do you have a secret boyfriend?” With a half-perplexed-half-annoyed look on my face, and with my eyes darting at her through my lenses, I shot back and said: “NO! Why would I have a secret boyfriend? If he was a secret I wouldn’t tell you and if I was with someone I wouldn’t keep it to myself! I would tell you! I would tell everyone!” I thought my answer would suffice and encourage her to ponder no more about my lack of a secret boyfriend, well it did, not before she used her right index finger to tap her watchless left wrist to indicate to me that my time was running out. SHE IS 12! (I …

dearEvents: Paul Carrick Brunson is BACK!

In 2011 a charismatic, confident Jamaican raised in America set foot in London for his first event in the UK. I didn’t know who he was and possibly didn’t know much about the event except that I was going to volunteer and would end up doing so with heels on and forget to pack some flats (I digress)… PAUL CARRICK BRUNSON IS BACK in London town for ‘It’s Complicated Live’ with an amazing UK panel. Tagged as the real life ‘Hitch‘, Paul has been involved in major moves since his last time in the UK and when I say major I mean Oprah, TV, a book and a NAACP [Literary Work – Instructional] nomination (the event is is named after his book – you know he’s major).
