Life: Don’t Pity Me Because I’m Single – RELOADED

How I Ended It… “I’m genuinely enjoying where God has me right now and know that I’m not upset or frustrated, I’m just concerned that my singleness is a concern for some – but be assured that God has me! He knows what’s good for me.” 1st Corinthians 7 verse 25 – 38 The Message Version “The Master did not give explicit direction regarding virgins [the unmarried], but as one much experienced in the mercy of the Master and loyal to him all the way, you can trust my counsel. Because of the current pressures on us from all sides, I think it would probably be best to stay just as you are. Are you married? Stay married. Are you unmarried? Don’t get married. But there’s certainly no sin in getting married, whether you’re a virgin or not. All I am saying is that when you marry, you take on additional stress in an already stressful time, and I want to spare you if possible. I do want to point out, friends, that time is of …

Small Chops: The Text Message

Small Chops: A Nigerian term for Canapés, Hors d’oeuvres and the like. Small Chops: Quick thoughts of mine. A few weeks ago…that time I sent a text message about marriage… Just had a thought – marriage is more God’s doing and planning than it is ours. God has total control of our lives and we live to please him, our lives at the end of the day fulfil his promises, plans and purposes (that’s if we make him no. 1). How much more marriage? I think we forget that even the relationships we have (on all levels) are supposed to reflect Christ, and when we get caught up in the marriage hype, our prayers and desires for marriage become misaligned. In other words, why do we desire it? Our first answer should be “to demonstrate and minister the love of Christ to others and to each other (oko t’iyawo).” I read this commentary this morning: “As you go about your daily tasks, God is working in your life in ways you may not even notice. …

Life: Don’t Pity Me Because I’m Single – Vlogs & Songs

So last week I wrote about my singleness and how I feel about it, you can read it here. In light of that, here are two videos from young Christians talking about singleness and marriage, both from different Biblical perspectives. Ladies First: @Omoba_Debs | xSoulBeautyx on YouTube “I’m so in love with God in my state of singleness. I don’t see it as a curse anymore…” @whatisjoedoing from @chaseGodTV on YouTube “Your desire to be married is not an ungodly desire…but at the same time we can’t let this desire consume us and dominate us…” Also, enjoy this song from Falz (The Bahd Guy), with the helps of Yemi Alade and Poe, he talks about how eager women are to get married due to age, pressure from family, and seeing friends (and enemies) get married whilst they are [still] single (basically). If you understand the song I’m sure you’ll enjoy the funny punch lines but also appreciate the truth of the matter. “Don’t get it twisted, it’s not like I’m desperate/ I just have a life plan and it’s …

Life: Don’t Pity Me Because I’m Single

I’ve been meaning to write something on this topic for a very long time, but every time I started to write this post it never seemed authentic. Writing about it felt forced but then this happened… Half-term at my house and some how my relationship status was the topic for discussion… and my 12 year old cousin procedes to ask “Sister Layide*, do you have a secret boyfriend?” With a half-perplexed-half-annoyed look on my face, and with my eyes darting at her through my lenses, I shot back and said: “NO! Why would I have a secret boyfriend? If he was a secret I wouldn’t tell you and if I was with someone I wouldn’t keep it to myself! I would tell you! I would tell everyone!” I thought my answer would suffice and encourage her to ponder no more about my lack of a secret boyfriend, well it did, not before she used her right index finger to tap her watchless left wrist to indicate to me that my time was running out. SHE IS 12! (I …
